Oman establishes three new nature reserves
Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, the Sultan of Oman, has issued three Royal Decrees to establish three new nature reserves in the Sultanate. These reserves are created to protect the country’s biodiversity and wildlife.
The new reserves are:
1. Al-Jabal Al-Gharbi Nature Reserve:
Located in the western mountains of Oman, this reserve includes a wide range of plant and animal species, including the Arabian leopard, the Persian onager, and gazelles.
2. Al-Dhahirah Nature Reserve:
Situated in the Al-Dhahirah region, this reserve encompasses deserts, wetlands, and various oases. It is home to migratory birds as well as wildlife species such as gazelles and jebeer.
3. Al-Buraimi Oasis Nature Reserve:
Located in the Al-Buraimi Oasis, this reserve consists of rich green areas with palm trees, gardens, and freshwater springs. It provides habitat for various bird species as well as reptiles and turtles.
The Environment Authority of Oman will be responsible for managing these reserves. The authority will implement programs aimed at protecting plant and animal species, educating local communities, and developing sustainable tourism in these areas.
The establishment of these reserves is an important step toward environmental conservation in Oman. It reflects the Omani government’s commitment to preserving the nation’s biodiversity and wildlife for future generations.
